Cruel to be kindle

Hey cHEwY gum gums

Greetings from Adelaide once more, it’s part 2 of my May Gibbs Creative Fellowship here. I’m determined to have a second draft of Bookish finished by the end of my 2 week stint. I’ve already done my speaking gigs so it’s basically all writing time now. It feels like coming back to another home, the burrow is still the same cosy place in (almost) Summer. The days are longer so it means I can take some nice runs much later in the day.

I bought an kindle for my research into Bookish. While the whole e-book vs paper book debate is soooo 2009, I’m kinda excited about trying an e-reader for the first time.

First thing I did was download a sample of my books, lol. And it was cool to see my stories in e-form. All of my impressions will be added to Jamie’s thoughts for Bookish. I thought that he would hate e-books because they’re not real books blah blah blah, but I’m unearthing something a little deeper…something that will come out of the page/screen.

I’ve bought a e-book, Everyday by David Levithan. This is a book that I would have got in paper form, so it’s a book that I definitely want to read…now I’ll see how it goes.

I also went to the SCBWI SA meeting last night, a nice cohort of writers and illustrators (thanks Barbara for the lift!). I got to meet many new faces, including Vicki Wakefield who wrote the cool All I Ever Wanted. I’ll have to pick it up-maybe in e-form haha. I’d say one thing about e-readers, you need to have a strong will to stop buying so many books 🙂

More updates soon
