Yoo-Hoo!

I’ve been hard at work on Starstruck, getting bogged down with the first few chapters. I’ve re-written the first chapter a million times, as my main character Connor Wong, gets introduced. My previous first chapter had Connor on his first day of school, meeting all his friends and teachers. It felt like a cast of thousands, all crammed into that first chapter. So I’ve spread out the first chapter over two chapters, adding scenes from other chapters.

I got caught up in the rush to set the scene, so I can dive into the story. It’s like skipping over the verse of a song to get to the catchy chorus. But a good song would have a catchy verse too. The introductionary parts don’t have to be so rigid. Because I know where the story’s headed (and how it ends), it’s helping me set a more reasonable pace. I’ve given Connor’s friends more room to breathe, so they can grow on the readers. But I also have to be careful not to rip out the middle part of the story too.

It’s a lot to mull over but it’s also breathing new life into this story!
