Halo Halo!
Don’t Breathe a Word is a gentle story about Mackenzie and her big sister Tahila, who live with their Grandpa. Grandpa looks after the girls, though lately, the girls are the ones taking care of him. Grandpa’s beginning to forget who he is, and gets into accidents around the house. It’s the sort of craziness that sends Mackenzie into a panic.
The story deals with the elderly and mental illness. Marianne Musgrove is no stranger to writing about tricky issues (The Worry Tree is fab!). She has a heart-warming touch and delivers a sweet tale about family responsiblity and love for grandparents.

I read this book too. It’s great. I really liked the no-nonsense way Musgrove dealt with this topic. There are so many jucy themes in this story I just hope teachers don’t ruin the expereince for their students by trying to over-analyse it.

I agree Jessica, I think if teachers dwell on the issues too heavily, they’ll miss the point of the story. Glad you enjoyed the book.
