Halo!

I’m at the airport, waiting to board a flight to Auckland for the Writers Festival. I can’t wait to see New Zealand and also some of my kiwi cHEwY gum gums. So what have I been doing in the last few weeks? Well, I’ve finished Bookish and given it to my agent. Once I get back, we’ll have a chat about it. He always give me great feedback, telling me things that I need to know (but sometimes what I don’t want to hear hehe). But I take it all in stride, he’s the first to see my work so I appreciate the raw comments. Then I take his thoughts on board and edit it one last time before it goes to Penguin.

I also did a killer run at the Sydney Comedy Festival. Now I love doing stand up comedy but writing is my main passion. So I’m grateful to still haveĀ opportunitiesĀ to perform in front of huge audiences. I was part of the Ethnic Comedy Showcase, sharing the stage with legends like Tahir and Joe Avati. We were also on Weekend Sunrise too, you can catch our segment here

The segment looked at our inspirations behind our comedy. Now it brings me back to Punchlines (plugplugplug) and how Johnny gets material for his own jokes. I get mine from my own crazy observations (about ads, TV shows, my friends etc) but also my own family. Yeah, I do some Asian jokes but that’s because I can get away with it. I feel like the quickest way to win an audience over is to be yourself and also show that you can make fun of yourself, it’s the Aussie way hehe.

Stay tuned for some cHEwY news and goss from the Auckland Writers Festival, here’s hoping that I’ll make them laugh and smile!
