Halo!

I had my first day of school last week. I haven’t visited a school since last December, so you always think ‘wow, am I ready for this?’ as you begin your first talk of the year. Thankfully, the kids were buzzing at Enfield Public School. One guy asked me ‘wow, you look shorter in real life.’ I don’t see how my website pictures make me look taller but anyway…I went through my jokes in my talk, knocking off each punchline…I even found a new one through some ab lib, it’s a keeper 🙂

It helps when a school knows who you are or read some of your books. It’s nice to go into a library and see a little display of your books or some pictures. A little hype goes a long way. Last week, I went to Hampden Park Public School and they had a chalkboard sign outside their library. I kinda got that celebrity status when I spoke to some of the students, they were awestruck. Now I’m no big shot author, so it surprised me more than anything else. They pumped me up for the talks and I responded to their positive energy.

Usually, I start getting school visits in March onwards, but I’ve started early-always a good thing when you’ve been home bound for a month. Bookish has moved into a fourth draft, and I’m building up each character. I’m predicting what my agent would say before I give it to him, I’ve gotten better at ironing out problems in these earlier drafts.

It’s all leading up to my first overseas school visits, some international schools in Thailand haha. Yeah it’s my home ground, but I’ve never been in international schools before so it should be interesting and a lot of fun. Instead of telling them about Thailand, I’ll be talking about Lengy in Australia, cue the poisonous animals hahaha.
