Better Read than Dead

Hey ya!

I picked up the latest Charlie Higson book, the fourth in the killer zombie Enemy series last Monday. I finished it in a few days, and that was with self-restraint. I wanted to let it linger a little longer. I re-read chapters just to get a real feel for the characters and scenarios. It’s been awhile since I’ve read a book this addictive. Sure, I read books all the time but this one was a real DEAR (drop everything and read, non-school fans).

All this is good research into my Bookish tale, funny how when you’re doing a first draft that everyone you meet is a potential character or part of my book. I went to Berkelouw Books at Mona Vale for a kids book club. This kid named Jordan started the whole thing, he’s a dead ringer for my main character James…and everything he said was juicy stuff for my story.

I also went to the YABBA awards ceremony in Melbourne. It was wonderful to see the Melbourne crop of writers including Gabrielle Wang and Felice Arena, two of Penguin’s finest. I’ve got to mention that I scored another photo with Andy Griffiths, I have enough to make my own album very soon, lol. I can’t wait to see the cHEwY gum gums in Sydney tomorrow for the KOALA awards, should be another fun event!
